Coffee Culture

The customs, behaviors, and values surrounding coffee have strongly shaped Colombian culture for more than a century. Regardless of their role in the process, everyone involved—from planting to commercialization and consumption—shares a sense of passion and pride for this bean that has transformed the national economy. We call this feeling “Coffee Culture.”

Jesús Antonio Castaño was a Colombian muleteer who, at the beginning of the last century, traveled from Tolima to Quimbaya, Quindío. There he dedicated his life to working the land to provide for his family. After years of effort, he bought his first farm with coffee and cocoa crops growing among guava and walnut coffee trees that shaded the plantations.

Four generations later, the Castaño family owns La Mejorana and La Carmelita, two farms that still preserve the landscapes once seen by Castaño, the founder of this legacy of love. Today, we are Caficultura – a legacy of love.

Specialty Coffee

When we talk about specialty coffee, we mean a pleasant cup with authentic flavors and unique characteristics. This is the result of several factors: proper plantation management, climate, biodiversity of microorganisms, and technical rigor in processes like roasting and preparation. At Caficultura, every step—from planting to brewing—is carefully supervised to deliver an authentic sensory experience and high cup scores.

Tree Plantation

We believe in integral conservation of the land. In 2004, we planted nearly 2,000 native trees, including the famous coffee walnut tree. As a result, we created natural shade for crops and enriched the soil with organic matter. Today, we have a new generation of self-sufficient soils, rich in nutrients and essential elements. At Caficultura, we aim to completely eradicate chemical fertilizers from our coffee farms.

Soil management

Soil Management

At La Mejorana and La Carmelita, where Caficultura coffee is grown and harvested, we keep the soil covered with vegetation so that sun and water do not impact it directly. This prevents erosion and preserves nutrients that feed the plantations, resulting in excellent quality beans and sustainable conservation of our farms.

The Flavors of Caficultura

The flavors of Caficultura are fascinating: nuts, caramel, citrus, almonds, and sugarcane—the hallmarks of the smoothest coffee in the world. Whether you are a consumer or vendor, you can trust that these cup profiles remain consistent, since our beans always come from the same farms. The same quality and taste, every day of the year. We are Caficultura: coffee for generations.
